Flying with Emirates to the Rainbow Nation

Are you fluent in football? Are you an avid fan that follows your team to the finals?
Every four years, the FIFA World Cup captures the imagination of millions as it brings together the world´s greatest teams to the ultimate sporting competition. It is during these adrenaline-charged times that Emirates airlines carry the world´s football aficionados right where the action is.
Last month, football fans flocked to the southern-most tip of Africa where two of the greatest oceans, Indian and the Atlantic, meet. With a mix of people and cultures more colorful and vibrant than its scenery, the Rainbow Nation offered visitors a myriad of memorable experiences.
Boasting world-class game reserves, dramatic landscapes and vineyards, exciting nightlife and shopping, South Africa is one of the world´s most intriguing travel destinations who proudly celebrated the 2010 FIFA World Cup held across its nine host cities: Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium), Cape Town (Greenpoint Stadium), Nelspruit (Mbombela Stadium), Polokwane (Peter Mokaba Stadium), Pretoria (Loftus Versfeld Stadium), Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Stadium), Rustenburg (Royal Bafokeng Stadium), Johannesburg (Ellis Park and Soccer City) and the Durban Stadium.
In true FIFA spirit, Emirates Philippines, through its country manager Gigie Baroa, invited a few media friends on a viewing party at the TGIF restaurant in Ayala Center Makati to witness one of the semi-final matches. T'was the fateful night where five-time World Cup winner Brazil gave way to dark horse favorite Netherlands. The night's revelry began with Ms. Baroa blowing the vuvuzuela, its blare echoing the sounds from the same windpipe's blaring sounds from the stadium miles away. We even had our faces streaked with face paint of the flag of the country we rooted for.
Holland's win that night carried them to a dramatic final showdown against world champion Spain. As the underdog who went all the way to the ultimate game, such a feat spoke volumes for the indefatigable Dutch athletes.
Emirates, the official partner in the recently concluded 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, flies to over a hundred destinations across six continents including three destinations in South Africa where the sporting events took action: Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. With award-winning cabin crew, on-board gourmet cuisine and the latest in-flight entertainment, there is no better way to travel and witness the action first hand.
The Emirates´ A380 carries an advanced mood lighting system, including a starlit sky, which adjusts throughout the flight to help combat the effects of jet-lag.
With special packages, including flights, accommodations, ground transportation, and show tickets, Emirates will take you to electrifying sports extravaganzas, like the FIFA, in the most convenient way.
Live the unforgettable with Emirates and celebrate the magic of football with the rest of the world! It is, after all, the easiest way to celebrate your team spirit.
