XO46 Heritage Bistro, the country's most awarded Filipino restaurant, has opened its new branch at the Conrad Manila; nicely tucked at the seaside section of the hotel, affording arresting views of Manila Bay and the mall ground's arcade.
"This outlet is the 17th in a group of restaurants and the flagship of our chain. XO46 affirms that Philippine cuisine and the Filipino dining experience can be world-class. It is not necessarily pedestrian as it can be at par with the rest of the world," enthused Advent Manila Hospitality CEO Andrew Masigan.
Portraits of Malacanan Palace and past Philippine presidents adorn the restaurants walls. The lengua franca of its food servers is Tagalog, a peculiarity but one that lives up to the bistro's renown.
The Intramuros dining room looks out into the hotel's 2nd floor commercial space while the Kalayaan dining salon peers out into the arcade's giant eye and big blue yonder. The MLQ state room, on the other hand, is the restaurant's inner sanctum, an intimate venue for very private functions.
Most of the dishes are good for sharing, except merienda (pang-isahan). Weave your appetite through Mga Paboritong Pilipino dishes that include extensive choices from Spanish and Filipino tapas, Sopas at Ensalada, Kanin at Pansit, to Mga Gulay, Mga Karne, Mga Lamang Dagat, and Merienda.
Must tries include Tinomis, that's pork cubes smothered with dinuguan and coco milk; Tortang Chorizo, egg omelette with sliced chorizo, bell peppers, and peas; Sisig Pasta, a pasta dish with sisig topping and ground chicharon bits; the open flame grilled Chicken Inasal; and Champorado Eh, the traditional biko recooked with sweetened chocolate then topped with chocolatey bars.
