Sheynnis Palacios

Nicaraguan government has banned return of Miss Universe 2023 and her team

As if the controversies surrounding the recently-concluded Miss Universe in El Salvador is not enough that it adds another one to the pile.

The Nicaraguan government has banned newly-crowned Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios, and her team, from coming back to the country after winning the title. While she may be saved from this predicament for the moment, as she'll be living in New Year until her reign is over, her team may not be spared from banishment.

According to the national paper, La Prensa, the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua, Karen Celebertti, had to fly back to Mexico (where they visited next year's host country), after government officials denied her re-entry into the country. The communist government in Nicaragua is not in support of beauty pageants.

Reports also say this is because the government has unearthed footages of Sheynnis' participation in protest marches way back in 2018 when she was still a college student.

This means the homecoming that her 'paisanos' have been planning will be put on hold in the meantime, as the government has already rained on her parade.
