Angono, the art capital of the Philippines, together with the National Commission for Culture & the Arts (NCCA), formally opened the Art Fridates shows in celebration of National Arts Month 2026.

The local government unit of Angono brought art to life, in both visual and performing arts, as shown by Angono artists. Paintings, from celebrated works of Nemi Miranda to still life expressions by other Angono painters, were on display at the exhibition hall.

“Artists arise from deep impulse to make our history. The government stands with Filipino artists in perfecting their crafts; so much so that they contribute to national progress,” said Pres. Bongbong Marcos in a video message.

Art is more than what we see in museums and galleries as it mirrors the Filipinos’ way of life.

“Artists give pride to our art history. The life works of Angono National Artists like Carlos “Botong” Francisco (Visual Arts) and Lucio San Pedro (Music) propel Angono and the rest of Rizal province to what it is today. After all, our province bears the name of our national hero,” enthused Hon. Rebecca Marie Ynares, congresswoman of the first district of Rizal, in her keynote speech.

The Nono Dance Troupe of Angono regaled the spectators with Philippine folk dances like the Subli, Sayaw sa Bangko, and the Tinikling during the afternoon performances.

“CITEM took over the extensive PhilTrade facility which was in existence since 1983. This sprawling galleries showcase the artistc expressions of local government units (LGUs) like Angono, which sets the tone for the National Arts Month celebration.

“This venue, the Likhang Pinoy gallery, is a year-long venue for Philippine art. We encourage everyone to explore the exhibition halls for works by local artisans as these pieces tell stories of heritage and community,” intoned DTI undersecretary Al Valenciano in his welcoming address.

After Angono, other LGUs like Bulacan, Laguna, and Muntinlupa will each present their respective art showcases every Friday of February.

“For three decades, the NCCA has championed arts and culture in the country. Mandated by Presidential Proclamation 683, series of 1991, National Arts Month is celebrated each year in February.

“We are launching the Art Fridates series starting this year to highlight ontributions of LGUs around the country, starting with Angono’s art scene and the Higantes Festival. Art is an expression of national identity,” intimated NCCA chairman Dr. Eric Zerrudo.

“We open the curtain of Art Fridates with the Art Capital of the Philippines. This event reminds us that art is not only found in art centers but is a beating, living heritage. In Angono, art is communal as residents live among artists and artisans,” continued Lordinio Vergara, commissioner of the sub-committee on the arts.

The Art Fridate shows will have an extended run until March 6th. All performances will take place at the Likhang Pinoy exhibition hall, inside the sprawling International Trade Center Complex (former PhilTrade) in Pasay City.
