Unveiling innovative technologies for 2011 By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Asus, one of the world’s top computer manufacturers, has recently launched a slew of PC components such as motherboards, graphic cards and multimedia products that offer faster, more reliable, and more stable computing solutions. In the Philippines, local PC enthusiasts, technical media writers, and power users got to experience these new innovative technologies at the ASUS Technical Seminar held recently at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel. Dubbed “Technologies for More Intelligent Computing & Gaming,” the last quarter (Q4) seminar presented solutions and platforms that raises the ante of a computer's performance. Local Asus representatives, together with Ryan Yu of the Cebu-based tech TV show, Tech Island, presented new products that are perfect for gamers, enthusiasts, and PC lovers.

“Our dual intelligent processors makes your TPU 37 percent instantly faster as compared to an Intel and AMD processor at a maximum of 3 gigahertz. It also gives your EPU up to 80 percent of savings in energy consumption and/or wattage used because the system turns off some features that aren't in use automatically,” revealed Jan Ellis Chua, Asus Phil's technical marketing specialist, during an exclusive interview.

"Innovative Motherboards as one of the world’s bestselling and most awarded motherboard brands, Asus has presented yet another set of new technologies in their computer main boards such as the Dual Intelligent Processor that offers 37% faster PC performance and 80% energy saving so PC users can do more without the hassle of higher electricity bills. Other motherboard technologies, such as the new Crosslinx3 in the Asus Crosshair IV Extreme, that gives freedom to users to use multi-GPU set-up in their desktops, were likewise showcased at the event. Gone are the days where users can only use one type of graphic card, they can now mix and match from different vendors and generations.

"Asus also showed off the new Rampage III Formula board that offers easy to use tools such as the iDirect where users can use their iPhones or iPads to maximize performance by over-clocking the board without going through the complicated processes. Asus representatives also unveiled the newest boards for the next generation Intel chip-set, ready for the next wave of technology. “The Core Unlocker, with the Everest application on the CPU, turns your unit 4-Core. It can only be used however for specific processors. This works best with AMD desktop chip-set 800 series. Others will only unlock a 3-Core. The padlock icon is simply pressed after shutting down the system. An increased core gives your system a bit more power to use,” Ellis added.

Fresh New Graphic and Multimedia Solutions Asus also presented new products that are perfect for a media-heavy lifestyle. New graphic cards, such as the ENGTX460 and EAH6800 series, offer exclusive performance-boosting features in a quiet design that people who play graphic intensive games, and who use design applications and create media, will definitely appreciate.

“The Asus VGA Card has a dust-proof fan that increases its life by 10,000 hours. The cooling system will register a low RDS on MOSFET. It is equipped with an EMI shield thus lowering interference. With a better defective rate, its special feature is the voltage tweak wherein users can easily tweak their GPU voltage,” informed Ellis.

For entertainment lovers, the O! Play HD2 was a sweet cap off to the seminar. This new media player offers effortless access to on-line entertainment. Being the world’s first media device with USB 3.0 support, transferring high definition video and audio can just be a few minutes/away.

“The O! Play HD2 plays all 47 digital formats and is ten times faster than a USB 2.0 HD Port. You can even conveniently use your iPhone as remote control! This DLNA (digital living network alliance) certified wonder creates a media center right in your home and/or office,” Ellis/enthused. All these innovations for motherboard, graphic cards and media solutions offer consumers easier access to technologies, faster performing machines, and less complicated to use tools that help PC users with their computing tasks whether they may be work or play.
