Philanthropist at heart

Mrs. Universe Philippines Asia-Pacific 2021 Aida Patana is eager to represent the country in the international finals next year. One of the most prestigious pageants for married women, Aida will be competing with 90 equally beautiful mothers from all over the world. This early, she is busy preparing for her stint on the global stage, which includes procuring the gown she’ll be wearing from Cebu’s ace designer Cary Santiago. It can be remembered that his creation for Gazini Ganados in last year’s Miss Universe competition won the Best in National Costume award.

A self-proclaimed workaholic, always in work mode 24/7, Aida is an eventologist and talent manager who has worked with some of the big names in show-business in the country. To date, she is busy overseeing most of her initiatives, and the causes she supports, ensuring that all are up to date and never neglected.

Her weekly radio/TV program “Kabuhayan ni Aida,” an off-shoot of her involvement with the Mrs. World Philippines pageant in 2019, where she placed as 1st runner-up, is geared towards women empowerment, helping people in need, as well as serving as an advisory on doing business. The said program allocates start up business packages for sari-sari stores in pre-selected barangays.

“The said pageant, while being a local search, was held in Paris and assembled married Filipinas from overseas Filipino communities to choose a representative to the international finals in LA. I did not win the crown but competing in my most favorite city in the world made me feel like a winner,” she confessed.

Aida’s journey in the world of pageants started in 2010 when she won as 1st runner-up in the Queen of Mandaue quest.

Married to furniture entrepreneur George Patana, the couple is blessed with a brood of five: Ian Mark (25), Stephanie (24), Mae Ann (23), and twins Sheena & Sheila (21). With the exception of her eldest son, the siblings are gifted with vocal prowess. Stephanie, in fact, has successfully launched her  Venee Saturno-written album at the Waterfront in Lahug - a venue she filled with six thousand spectators on a previous solo concert.

To all married women who are contemplating on joining the pageant circuit, Aida says “it’s not too late to join as an entrant or delegate. The pageant, like those which I had been a part of, will give each of them more confidence, as well as develop their personalities. Not to mention gaining new experiences and friends.

“After the pandemic restrictions, I would like to continue my radio and TV shows of barangay-level people projects. I’m always happy to extend help even in my own small way,” she said at the close of an intimate colloquy.

The Aida Patana Game Show will be back airing its weekly episodes, shot in different barangay locales, once the lockdown will be lifted. It will run in its usual 8-9 pm timeslot on the local TV channel.

Aida will be celebrating her natal anniversary in mid November and will be partying in the company of family and friends at a posh resort in Sogod, about two hours away from Cebu City. The venue is a sprawling two thousand prime beachfront development of the Lhuillier Group of Companies and is touted as “the next Boracay.”
