Ilonggo cinema lords over filmfest's awards night

For a second consecutive year, another Ilonggo entry won as Best Film in the recent Puregold CinePanalo awards night. TM Maloles' diving-for-a-living drama "Salum" took home the plum prize with the cash prize of P 250K (aside from a film accessory package from corporate sposors); after Kurt Soberano's "Under a Piaya Moon" last year. "Salum" also won Best Production Design (Kyle Fermindoza), Best Sound Design (Fatima Nerikka Salim & Immanuel Verona), and Best Original Score (Armor Rapista).
Another Ilonggo film, "Tigkiliwi," won the festival's Jury Choice. It likewise received honors for Best Actress (Ruby Ruiz), Best Supporting Actress (Gabby Padilla), Best Supporting Actor (Jeffrey Jiruma), Best Screenplay (Tara Illenberger), Best Ensemble, and a Best Actor (JP Larroder) win that tied with Khalil Ramos.
The Jury's Choice for the Student Short entries was Sean Rafael A. Verdejo's "De La Cruz, Juan P.". The entry also won Best Actor (Jasper John) and Best Sound Design (Elian Idioma).
Of the seven full-length film entries, it was "Sepak Takraw" that was almost shut out from the race, except for Enzo Osorio's lone nomination in the Best Actor category.
On the other hand, the Mindanaoan student entry "Champ Green" won as Student Shorts Best Picture and received P 100,000, aside from a prize package from corporate sponsors. It also won Best Supporting Actor (Sol Eugenio), Best Screenplay (Clyde Quizon Gamale), Best Brand Intrusion, and the Mowelfund Special Citation.
While Adelbert Abrigonda's Student Shorts entry on ballet, "Dan, En Pointe" won Best Cinematography (Lance Lascano) and the MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha Award.
The Puregold Always Panalo Student Short went to Ira Corrine Esquerra Malit's "SamPie." It also won the Best Actor for Lucas Martin.
The Student Short Best Poster, meanwhile, was awarded to Alexie Pardo's "Checkmate," as well as receiving the Best Film Promotion honors.
The Tallin Film Festival organizers awarded the International Jury Prize to "Journeyman." The The Lat Brothers' boxing drama also won the Puregold Always Panalo Film, Best Cinematography (Dominic Lat), the MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha citation, Best Movie Poster, and Best Brand Intrusion.
The Puregold Always Panalo award for Full Features also went to Catsi Catalan's "Fleeting;" its only accolade for the evening.
The Student Shorts Best Director award went to Vhan Marco Molacruz for his politically-charged caper "Uwian." It also won Best Actress (Geraldine Villamil), Best Supporting Actress (Uzziel Delamide), Best Production Design (Andrea Jayne Perang), and Best Original Score (Len Calvo).
J. P. Habac's drama about an absentee father's passing, "Olsen's Day" won him the Best Director in the Full Feature category. In his acceptance speech, the director said he wrote the film's material around the time of his father's demise several years ago. It won him the Mowelfund Special Citation, as well. "Olsen's Day " also received the Best Actor category for Khalil Ramos who was essaying the titular character.
The People's Choice Award for Full Features went to Jill Singson Urdaneta's rom-com "Co-Love." It also won Best Editing (Vanessa Ubas De Leon), and Best Song ("Di Ko Pinili" by Kiko Salazar and performed by Chie).
The Student Shorts Best Ensemble Award went to Roniño Dolim's "Sine, Sine." It also won the MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha citation, as well as Best Song ("Suga, Camera, Saad" composed by Jonathan Rey Sartorio & Lloyd Martin Villacortes Arce, and performed by Rott Sartorio).
Other single award recipients in the Student Shorts were Kenneth Flores' "1, 2, Strike" (MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha), "Sisenta" (People Choice Award), and Naiah Nicole Mendoza's"Taympers" (Best Film Promotion).
