Cong. Niña Taduran

A woman of many hats

By Demi Braque

Party-list representative Niña Taduran is a well-rounded personality who has worn different hats throughout her entire professional journey. From broadcaster to lawmaker, and now to becoming a beauty queen and product endorser, the solon's growing list of accomplishments remains in full year.

Cong. Taduran is one of three representatives nominated from the party list ACTCIS, an acronym that stands for Anti-Crime & Terrorism through Community Involvement - the most voted upon platform in Philippine election history by amassing 2.8-millions. The second organization with the highest number of votes did not even reach the halfway mark to the figure they attained.

Prior to becoming a lawmaker, she had 21 years of public service as the original co-anchor to the radio show "Wanted sa Radyo" with Raffy Tulfo since it premiered in 1997. However she is what many might call a reluctant politician, as she never dreamed of working in the balls of Congress. In fact, she was informed only a day prior to her nomination to the party - which, by the way, was the last day of filing.

As Assistant Majority Leader, she has championed causes on women & children, the labor sector (as the OFW community greatly helped the party in gaining vote counts), the enactment of the media welfare bill, as well as countless outreach programs geared towards medical, educational, livelihood, even burial, assistance. She is also the co-author of the Anti-Crime & Terrorism Bill.

Born in the Year of the Dog (1970), Cong. Taduran hails from the historic City of Iriga in Camarines Sur, known to many movie fans as the origins of Superstar Nora Aunor. Then and now, she has retained her positive outlook in life.

And now, she turns a new leaf as Best Magazine named her as Model Mom Earth 2021, a worthy appointment for a crusader of environmental concerns. The pageant organizers saw her integrity as a lawmaker, and chose her as one of the five model mom queens.

She, together, with four other empowered women, will kickstart what will, eventually, turn out to be an annual search for outstanding mothers who will be role models for accomplished women pursuing outreach and pageant dreams.

Her co-appointee Model Mom Globe 2021 Mariel Adrienne, who owns the Pasithea label of health and beauty products, has tapped Cong. Taduran as one of its brand ambassadors. Pasithea's range of products include cologne for men & women, lotion, soap bars, liniment oils, as well as hand sanitizers and disinfectants.

Cong. Taduran is the proud mother of two daughters, aged 22 and 12. A very down-to-earth person, she has never let her profession change her outlook nor the way the family has lived. And she's happy that her family shares the same sentiment. With her feet solidly planted on the ground, surrounded by the love of family, friends, and peers, it is no wonder she has excelled in the things she puts her heart into.
