Si Sol at si Luna: A new season of loving

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

In the wake of its highly-successful Cine Panalo Film Festival, grocery chain Puregold Philippines mounts a different kind of love story in a 13-episode weekend show on its Puregold Channel on YouTube.

"We were trying to find a right place for the material. This was one of the scripts submitted that didn't make the cut at the Cine Panalo filmfest, but which had a lot of promise. The material was then threshed out into 13 episodes. Puregold pioneered the theater-tainment platform, where full length narratives met bite-sized media," shared series producer Chris Cahilig, during the show's mediacon at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Topbilled by Zaijan Jaranilla and Jane Oineza, the duo takes on the titular characters in "Si Sol at si Luna." Written and directed by Dolly Dulu, the full-length narrative is given life in a digital platform.

"This script was written in 2017. I processed how a 30-year-old woman falls in love with an 18-yrar-old guy," revealed writer-director Dolly Dulu.

The shows ensemble cast also include Joao Constancia, Uzziel Delamide, Vaughn Piczon, Lyle Viray, Jem Manicad, Marnie Lapus, and breakout star Atasha Franco.

"At its core, the series is about love, but not the kind that comes easy. It asks, 'Where do we find love?' and 'What do we do with it when it comes at the most unexpected time?' Luna's story is about loving through grief, while Sol's is about loving through transformation. Whether love can survive both, that's the question the viewers will have to ponder on," enthused senior marketing manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad.

Done with film production details like color grading, Si Sol at si Luna starts playing on the Puregold Channel on May 31 and every Saturday thereafter.
