 Innervoices celebrate manager's birthday bash

By Nico Erle Ciriaco

Innervoices' band manager and keyboardist Atty Rey Bergado celebrated his natal anniversary last Sept 25 with family and friends at the Hard Rock Café in Makati City. Colleagues from the music industry jammed with the band's gig for the evening, including jazz artiste Richard Merck and rocker Max Gilbert.

Merck serenaded the celebrant with his renditions of Stevie Wonder's "Knock Me Off My Feet" and Paul McCartney/Beatles' "Yesterday" while Gilbert wowed the crowd with his cover of "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," the OST from the movie "Armageddon."

The birthday vibe pervaded the atmosphere, readying partygoers and clubbers for the dance floor. New Wave hits like "Light & Shade" (Fra Lippo Lippi), "The More You Live, The More You Love" (Flock of Seagulls), and With or Without You (U2) gave way to more upbeat 80s and 90s dance hits like "Take On Me" (A-ha), among many others.

Aside from the band's well received covers of tunes from the 80s/90s, as well as OPM rock staples like the Eraserheads hits "Pare Ko," "Magasin," and "Overdrive," lead vocalist Pat Marcelino also dished out the band's new compilation of songs for it's forthcoming album - "Idlip," "Saksi Ang Mga Tala," "Galaw," and "I Will Wait for You in the Rain" - just as Typhoon Opong hits Philippine landmass up North; with class and work suspensions issued for the next day by schools and offices.

On on its 34th year as a pop rock band, Innervoices continues to regale fans and spectators with their brand of music through their gigs at the Aromata and Noctos in Quezon City, the 19 East in Muntinlupa, and the Hard Rock Café in Makati.
