Moffats bring back hits in Philippine tour

 By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The Moffats, one of the biggest boy bands of the 90s, brings their music to the Philippines again but, this time, through their new identity, Music Travel Love.

Culled from the name of their music channel, the Moffats has, after over three decades, came of age with some of them having kids of their own.

After their successful 90s stint, the group renamed themselves as “The Endless Summer” for a while. That name, however, got into a copyright issue with a filmmaker who made a movie with that same title in 1965. He said that if they continued to use it, they needed to give a 20% royalty from all their revenues. Thus, they decided to drop that and used the name of their music channel instead.

So they’ve been known as “Music Travel Love” from that time until now.

Three of the four Moffats brothers – Bob, Clint, and Dave – flew to Manila and met the media in a presser at the Novotel Tent in Quezon City.

“Singing as lead vocal during our Moffats days gave me confidence to perform with my brothers.

“Success looks different depending on where you are on your journey.

“This I Promise You is one of the songs we did in the Philippines with Francis Greg,” shared Dave.

Through a request, the brothers performed a snippet from their hit song, “If Life is so Short,” which they say is the song for the Gen Z crowd ‘coz it easily transcends to all generations.

“Certain songs stand the test of time. We pick songs we love and are not locked in a certain time or era.

“The big thing about music is to have an open door or portal to do better. The process is the most important point.

“Sleeping Child is a collaboration we did with Michael Learns to Rock in Denmark. It may be easy to listen to it now but it took us a while to find the perfect fit.

“Numbers (metrics) get it the way of what you’re creating and what you’re doing. You lose the magic.

“Songs now are hinged on repetition and production, unlike before where it’s all about the song. But connection is still the same, despite the presence of social media.

“One day, all four of us would hopefully do songs together again; ‘coz we live very different lives now,” intimated Bob, towards the close of the confab.

They plan to collaborate with a Filipino artist soon. The artist (who they want to remain unnamed as of yet) lives near Bohol and has a great following on social media.

“Pinoys love songs differently than other parts of the world. That’s why they’re good singers.

“We will have special guests for the show. But it is the fans that make each show very unique.

“We will incorporate Moffats songs in our repertoire, which were big hits here in the Philippines,” said Clint in closing.

The Music Travel Love Philippine tour will be in Cagayan de Oro on June 26 at The Atrium, in Cebu City on June 27 at the Waterfront Casino, and in Manila at the New Frontier Theater on June 28.
