Sunny frolics, exotic destinations, and mind-blowing escapades are some of the ingredients to an unforgettable summer. No travel is ever complete without adventure and the Philippines, and the rest of Asia, unfailingly proves to be a treasure among travelers around the world.
A journey to the Far East provides a breathtaking backdrop and with its never-ending summer season, the best thing to do is simply enjoy the limitless activities each destination offers. You may opt to bask in the beaches of Phuket, Tanjung Aru or Boracay; go diving in Maldives, Palau or Tubbataha; follow the adventure trail of Nam Song, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong or Taipei; do nature trekking in El Nido, Bali, or Puerto Princesa; or go surfing in La Union, Tokyo, or Baler. The possibilities are endless.
Amidst the beauty of it all, let the captivating scenery reflect in your skin’s healthy glow. To this end, Watsons recently mounted its “Sun Up to Sun Down” summer campaign at the Mall of Asia’s entertainment hall as it presented this season’s essentials; giving each one unlimited sun protection as they discover extraordinary territories and revisit nostalgic paths.
Dive among peculiar species like the whale sharks in Donsol or Oslob. Catch the sunrise atop a majestic mountain peak like Mt. Apo or Batad in the Mountain Province. Traverse offbeat tracks on a bike a la Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love.
The ‘Sun Up to Sun Down’ campaign suggests revelers where to go, what to do, and what to bring. With a destination choice as big as the whole of Asia, the directory spells fun and adventure in every itinerary. “During summer, it’s always best to be protected from the sun to make the most of the fiesta/festival season. We at Watsons carry the widest range of products that will offer you utmost sun protection,” intimated marketing manager Sharon Presbitero, during an intimate media huddle.

See that massive collection of sunglasses on your vanity kits? They’re more than just a cool summer accessory; they’re also there to protect your eyes from blinding sun glare. Take advantage of the high heat and don your cute pairs to match your outfits (or the lack of it), whether you’re beachcombing or city-tripping about town. More than design & mold, make sure that the sunglasses you purchase do protect you from both UVA and UVB rays; are big enough to completely cover your peepers, and are durable to lug around during your many trips.
Sunscreens are definitely in! Applying it may be tedious but this is one thing you should never, ever miss out on. The rays of the sun are more damaging than you think. They either target the surface of your skin, making it darker; or, they reach its inner layers and cause sunspots as well as crow’s feet and wrinkles. Better make the effort of putting on some SPF and save yourself from the eventual unsightly results.
When you’ve finally incorporated slathering sunscreen into your summer routine, make sure you apply it with perfect timing. Scheduling’s an issue in the sun protection department. You should put on SPF at least half an hour before going under the sun, and never forget to re-apply every so often. If you hate doing much touch ups, just remember the rule: the lower the SPF, the more often you need to re-touch
In applying, be sure to cover all the right places. Most girls just put sunscreen on their faces and upper extremities, not realizing that important parts of the body like the ears, feet, and upper back should also get their share of protection. Be a friend to your entire body and make sure every nook and cranny gets the much-needed TLC.
While it’s definitely the season for baring it all, it would be smart to keep oneself wary of sun damage as well. Flaunt your physique, but not without a shawl or a kaftan which you can wear when the sun strikes too hot. If you want to cover up all the way, don’t worry about not being beach-appropriate. You’ll thank yourself you did that many years later.
The hotter the weather, the more you should keep hydrated. Being parched isn’t only uncomfortable, it also strips your skin out of its moisture levels; leaving it dry and more prone to damage. Always keep a water bottle ready at all times for that extra jolt of freshness.
Studies show that excessive sweating may cause acne breakouts, so it’s best to keep perspiration from ruining your skin and your look! Alas, the relentless weather will cause you to perspire so it is best to always keep wipes or a cotton hanky ready for use.
The hair can also suffer from the sun’s strength, leaving tresses dry and dull. The trick to a shiny head of mane is conditioning. Applying it every day retains the hair’s moisture and life. Take it a notch higher by applying a deep treatment conditioning mask.
Well, I guess we’ve covered all the basics. And now that you’re all set, let the fun begin!
