Surfing through bigger waves one at a time

Before Kathleen Enid Espenido became a Binibini titlist, she was first crowned as Miss Fit Philippines 2024. And although it was a national title, it did not have, as of yet, a follow-up International competition - a factor that did not pose an issue to her title as Binibining Pilipinas 2025 2nd runner-up, which she won, after qualifying as official candidate, from a screening round early in 2025.
Kai, as friends would fondly call her, is an intermediate level surfer - not only because it is her hometown Siargao's well-loved sport but also because their family operates a diving & surfing resort. Wise business practice demands that owners know what they proffer so that even if no employees are around, they can still run the business by themselves.
KAI also happens to be the acronym of her advocacy project. It stands for Knowledge Action Inspiration. After winning the Miss Fit Philippines crown, she organized a birthday event for the 143 kids in Nayon ng Kabataan, as a kick-off project to her advocacy on the betterment of underprivileged children.
Kai was the youngest of two Binibini candidates in her batch; the other one being co-winner Binibining Pilipinas 2025 1st runner-up Dalia Varde Khattab. Three years earlier, at 18, she was a housemate of Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 as the island girl from Siargao.
Kai finished her Senior High from the Siargao Institute of Technology. After her BBP contractual obligations, she hopes to continue her studies and enroll in a Humanities or Social Science degree like Psychology, but with a curriculum geared towards entrepreneurship so she can use it with the family business. When the time.e comes, she'll decide if she'll go back to Siargao and study there, or choose a school in Manila, or study abroad - perhaps in Sydney, Australia where her father's side of the family comes from.
