Perpetual Help Medical Center

 Partnership for Disaster Preparedness

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The Perpetual Help Medical Center (PHMC) signed an inaugural partnership to boost the hospital's preparedness for calamities, including the most-feared 'Big One' earthquake, with the use of advanced technology from Rise Internet.

Administrative director Capt. Norman Biola said that they've already started with Rise Internet and is enjoying its 99.9% connectivity with no downtime.

"We are attuned with the changes of the times, especially with technology. Rise is relatively new, and not yet congested. It has a credible transport system through its good network of submarine cables," continued Capt. Biola.

This pilot project coincides with the hospital's 50th year anniversary. It's theme, "Golden Year. Greater Heights. Up and Beyond," underscores PHMC's longstanding commitment to excellence and community service.

"Our 50th year affirms our enduring mission of healthcare in the face of every challenge. We started as a school for Nursing. Our hospital rooms began as classrooms, so explains its sizes. We take pride in the health professionals we've produced.

"Our collaboration with Rise empowers us to enhance our disaster response capabilities, guaranteeing that we can reach and assist our patients without delay, regardless of the situation.

"Connectivity is the lifeline of all hospitals, as it is their digital backbone. We've embraced innovatons because technology is essential in healthcare. Soon, our patients can check their histories and appointments online. To bolster our preparedness, we have an automatic transfer switch for our power source, in cases of fluctuation and/or power loss," added Lt. Col. Tamayo, presudent of PHMC.

The PHMC has a universal testing machine for structural strength (PSI). They are aware that 50-year-old buildings need structural certification compliance. The hospital chairman is very particular with its structures. After all, they have their own construction company.

As the country faces an increasing number of natural calamities, PHMC is intensifying its preparations to provide unwavering healthcare support to its local community.

"Rise is celebrating its tenth year in the business. We cater to business-to-business clients, including techno parks. Our latency is 99.9% up all the time. PHMC is our first partnership in Luzon. Rise is headquartered in Cebu, with branches in Iloilo and Davao. We are accelerating Internet in the Philippines. We are in the middle now. We used to be in the bottom.

"As a responsible Internet company, we've been set up by an Astralian company. We are helping PHMC because this is a training hospital, not to mention that I was once a patient here and was nursed back to health," shared Justin Santiano, area sales head for Rise Technology. "Our clientele include Angkas, Rustan's Coffee Corp., Coca-Cola, and Starbucks among others," he added.

The University of Perpetual Help System has ten campuses nationwide, with Roxas City as its latest addition. Perpetual Hospitals are located in Las Piñas City, Biñan and Calamba (Laguna), Malasiqui (Pangasinan), and Molino (Cavite).
